Frog’s Original Miscellany

Welcome to a section of the site which is dedicated to encountering Superfrog on your travels – basically, anything you see connected with Superfrog, take a snap of it and send it in my direction, and I’ll stick it up here. This includes cameos in other games, and copies of Superfrog you see lying around in unlikely places. Reviews, summaries, and stuff like that go in the Press Section. Either way, contributions welcome.

Penny Wyatt sent in this picture of a copy of Superfrog she spotted while browsing through an Amiga show. Interestingly there’s also a disk marked “Aminet” in the picture – that’s a site about the Amiga, isn’t it?

On the Team17 classic “Alien Breed”, made by the same development team as Superfrog, there is an advert for Superfrog. Squirminator2K was kind enough to take screenshots of all the slides from the advert. On the downloads page you can also download the music for it.

Rare promo shots in the same style:

And here are some shots of an unfinished Superfrog, early development style. I want to play this version! Thanks to Thomas for these.

Superfrog also often turns up for sale on eBay. Here are some snaps of copies of the game people are selling (well, why not?)

A company named Realspawn Productions recently started making a Superfrog fan-game, which eventually became Super-Lizzy, a project which was also shelved. This is very unfortunate, but the promo screenshots can still be found here.

Mogwai sent me this interesting e-mail:

Basically, in FFVIII there's a card game throughout, that you can play. Cards have numbers on, and its a 2 player game, the aim to take your opponents’ cards using your own (it's more complicated, but I can't really explain!) For the game (called Triple Triad), check out ttadvance.ca.

But that isn't really what I e-mailed you about! People create their own Triple Triad cards, and on the forums of TT Advance there are some really nice decks that people have made, using various cartoons, games, etc for the images.

I've always liked making my own cards, and it was ideas for decks of cards that escaped me. Then, I remembered Superfrog! I set about making a deck of cards for that classic game, and your website provided most of the images I used (there being nowhere else on the internet that has screenshots of ALL the Superfrog enemies!).

Mogwai’s deck of cards was pretty damn cool, but unfortunately, his site seems to have vanished.

This is from the Amiga game Happy Monster. Do you notice any similarities, perchance?

Thanks for Leo for sending this in. In case you’re wondering, this is an iPAQ, running an emulated version of Superfrog. Superfrog on the go! Brilliant! Leo also sent in a couple of shots of Superfrog running on a couple of different OSs:

Mac OS X

MorphOS

Well, not exactly Superfrog… but close! From the Guardian (G2 supplement), 27/07/07.

Thomas Sutherland sent this piece of information in:

There’s a Wii Homebrew game called “Scogger”, a puzzle game with a frog. (Note: “Wii Homebrew” is a system of hacking a Wii and making old games or self-created games available to play on your Wii.)

This game doesn’t actually mention that it uses Superfrog music in it (that displeases me),” says Thomas, “but I’ve played it, and it does.

I (Pooka) don’t have a chipped Wii or use Wii Homebrew – Wii Homebrew is illegal… not that it bothers me, but I won’t want to risk my Wii hardware… but my friend Morti has, and having played Scogger, I can confirm that it does indeed use unaccredited Superfrog music. It’s also quite a boring game, but that’s not the point…

This screenshot is from Forest Dumb Forever!, a game “released in Poland (maybe not only Poland, but I'm not sure) as [a] commercial game for Amiga”, along with its predecessor, Forest Dumb. It’s basically a rip-off from Superfrog. Thanks to Karol Wisniewski for this information.
